Emily's Palette
This encaustic artwork (beeswax painting) presents a textured landscape painting that vividly captures a natural scene with a river flowing through a field. The foreground is rich with raised, tactile elements resembling tall grasses and wildflowers in earthy tones of brown, green, and hints of yellow. The river is painted in flowing blues, winding through the middle of the composition, creating a striking contrast with the surrounding land. In the background, there are distant dark green hills under a sky dominated by dynamic clouds in shades of blue, green, and yellow, accented with warm pink and orange hues suggesting either sunrise or sunset. The use of texturized wax and vibrant colors gives the piece depth and a partly three-dimensional quality, emphasizing the relationship between the land, water, and sky. The colour palette for this piece is a departure from the artist’s typical bright bold hues, and was used in a playful experiment with a nod to the folk-art tastes of a good friend named Emily.
Introducing Vicki’s new line of encaustic pieces! Encaustic is a mix of beeswax, natural damar tree resin and pigment, layered on a birch cradle board. Each layer is fused using heat to make a durable surface once it has cured. Much like needle-felted wool, encaustic is wonderful for achieving pronounced texture and depth. Vicki’s use of saturated colour, enhanced texture and sweeping movement carries over nicely to this beautiful artform.
This original encaustic painting was hand-crafted with encaustic medium and pigment stick on encaustic board, and awaits a frame to suit your decor.
Artwork dimensions are 13 × 18 cm (5 × 7”)
