Tall Poppies
This encaustic (beeswax painting) artwork showcases a vertical composition of vibrant red poppies set against a textured, abstract green and pale ivory background. The stems of the flowers are dark and slender, twisting upwards with a sense of natural fluidity. The red poppies are bold and richly detailed, with their petals layered and slightly curled, conveying depth and movement. The backdrop is blurred and mottled, enhancing the contrast and making the flowers the striking focal point. The overall effect is a dynamic and lively representation of poppies in a field, with a blend of realism and impressionistic texture.
Introducing Vicki’s new line of encaustic pieces! Encaustic is a mix of beeswax, natural damar tree resin and pigment, layered on a birch cradle board. Each layer is fused using heat to make a durable surface once it has cured. Much like needle-felted wool, encaustic is wonderful for achieving pronounced texture and depth. Vicki’s use of saturated colour, enhanced texture and sweeping movement carries over nicely to this beautiful artform.
This original encaustic painting was hand-crafted with encaustic medium and pigment stick on a birch cradle board.
Artwork dimensions are 41 × 20 cm (16 × 8”)
